VISA PROCESS 2024 – SELF-PAID STUDENTS
Applicants who are going to study in Hungary on their own expenses should follow these essential steps in order to complete the visa application process:
1. Complete and sign the application form, and appendix then scan the form, the copy of your passport and the documents mentioned in Point 3, and send them via email to consulate.amm@mfa.gov.hu.
- Only scanned documents in pdf. format can be accepted!
- Documents should be scanned separately and named according to their content.
- Please mention your name in the subject of your e-mail.
- Due to the large size of attachments, please make sure to send the documents in seperate emails.
We kindly request making an appointment only after sending all the necessary documents in the above mentioned format via email! Incomplete emails and attachments may not be accepted. Any booked appointments prior sending the whole required documents via email might result in cancelling your appointment.
2. Book an appointment at our Consulate through the online appointment system /Jordan → Visa application (long-term; residence permit – D)
3. Visit the Consulate (24 Hani Al-Akasheh Street, Abdoun, Amman 11181) at the time you have reserved, bring the confirmation of your online appointment and the following original documents:
- Application form (form + Appendix 9.13) completed and signed;
- Letter of Admission of the host institution;
- Proof of payment for tutition fee;
- Valid passport - the passport validity must exceed the planned stay in the Schengen area by at least 3 months and must have been issued within the past 10 years;
- One passport size photo – with white background that shows face features completely, not older than 6 months;
- Travel insurance covering at least one month from the planned departure to Hungary;
- Proof of accommodation: e.g. confirmation of dormitory acceptance, lease agreement, hotel booking, etc.
- The English version of all educational degrees (Tawjihi, BA/Bsc, MA/Msc diplomas + transcripts) (Not verified)
- Bank statement (there is no specific balance you should have – it should be able to prove that your long-term stay, accomodation, health insurance, everyday life, etc is financially supported):
- English language certificate (TOEFL, IELTS). (Applicable only for Jordanian Citizens)
For those who pursue Bachelor and Master studies:
- Personal certified bank statements or parent/guardian’s certified bank statement from the last 6 months (original, in English)
- commitment letter from the parent/guardian to support the student during the time of his/her studies in Hungary (original, in English);
- copy of the passport or ID of the parent/guardian;
For those who pursue PhD studies: personal certified bank statement (original, in English)
Note: students/applicants under the age of 18 must be accompanied by both parents/legal guardians to apply for a visa.
Visa fees: the visa is 86 JOD for self-paid students paid only by cash at bank after submitting the visa application.
4. Visa applications of people accompanying students
If family members/friends wish to accompany you on your journey to Hungary and travel with you at the same time, they must apply for a C type (Schengen) visa at BLS by following the general rules and steps of the visa application: https://amman.mfa.gov.hu/eng/page/c-type-schengen-visa-application
Only students applying for D type visa can visit the Embassy!
5. General information on D type visa and residence permit
You can find useful, general information on your D visa here.
As the visa process may take 3-6 weeks, sometimes even longer, we highly recommend buying your travel tickets AFTER receiving your visa. The Embassy cannot take any responsibility for problems/issues resulted from too early ticket purchase.

Registration of birth/marriage/death/divorce
Hungarian citizens have the possibility to register any registry event that happened abroad via the Consular Services. The Consulate assists the Hungarian authorities in collecting the necessary documents and submitting them to Hungary, but the registration itself is done by the Government Office of the Capital City of Budapest (BFKH, Budapest Főváros Kormányhivatala).
In case the registry event happened in Jordan, certificates can be requested from the Ministry of Interior, Civil Status and Passport Department. All certificates must be legalised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates in advance of visiting the Consulate!
In order to submit the request for registration, applicants must book an appointment via our online booking system and fill out the necessary documents. Appointments without any of the required/unfilled papers will be cancelled and the applicant must book another date later!
The registration is free of charge.
Registration of birth
By the power of law, children born to Hungarian citizens automatically receive Hungarian citizenship, regardless of the place of birth.
If the registered person is underage, both parents should be present upon application.
In order to register the birth abroad in the Hungarian registry system, applicants must provide the following documents:
- Application form, dully filled (download here)
- Original birth certificate in English/with Hungarian translation and with diplomatic legalisation
- ID documents of parents (ID card or passport)
- ID documents of the child (ID card or passport)
- Document proving Hungarian citizenship
- Hungarian marriage certificate of the parents
In addition to the registration of birth, the child has to be registered in the Personal Data and Address Register as well.
If the parent has a registered Hungarian address, the child can only be registered to the same Hungarian address. In case at least one of the Hungarian parents has a registered address abroad, then the registration can be requested for an address abroad.

Registration of marriage
Both of the wife and husband must be present personally upon application.
- Application form, dully filled (download here)
- Original marriage certificate in English/with Hungarian translation and with diplomatic legalisation
- ID documents of wife & husband (ID card or passport)
- Document proving Hungarian citizenship
- Documents proving marital status before marriage
- Hungarian birth certificate of the spouse holding Hungarian citizenship
Registration of divorce
- Application form, dully filled (download here)
- Official judgement or certificate of divorce in English/with Hungarian translation and diplomatic legalisation
- ID documents (ID card or passport)
- Copy of the Hungarian marriage certificate
Registration of death
- Application form, dully filled (download here)
- Original death certificate in English/with Hungarian translation and with diplomatic legalisation
- Birth certificate of the deceased
- Document proving the Hungarian citizenship of the deceased
- Document proving the marital status of the deceased
- ID or passport of the applicant requesting for the registration
Passport
Hungarian citizens can request for biometric passports at the Consulate.
After examining the personal data and the citizenship of the applicant, the Consulate forwards the passport request electronically to the Ministry of Interior of Hungary.
In order to submit the passport request, applicants must book an appointment via our online booking system and bring the necessary documents.
During the application, biometric data (photo, fingerprints, signature) will be collected from the applicant.
The fees of passport can only be paid by card at the Consulate (see our website: Consular information – Consular fees).
The applicant can ask for the collection of the new passport via the Consulate.
Documents requested:
- ID document (passport or ID card)
- Document proving Hungarian citizenship
- If applicable, old/expired passport
For children under the age of 12:
- 1 passport size photo (with white background)
- ID documents of the parents, proving personal data and Hungarian citizenship as well
- ID document of the child
- If applicable, old/expired passport
- If only one parent is present, official power of attorney from the parent not present agreeing to submit the passport request
The new law on D type visa applications will come into force on January 1, 2024.

The new law on D type visa applications will come into force on January 1, 2024.
- D type visa applications made before January 1, 2024 will be suspended between January 1 and February 29, 2024.
- Between January 1 and February 29, 2024 no residence visa applications can be accepted.
- The validity period of residence cards that will expire between January 1 and February 29, 2024 will be extended to April 30, 2024. (not valid for travelling)
- All D type visa appointments created previously for the period between January 1 and February 29, 2024 will be automatically canceled by the system.
